US President Donald Trump is threatening to raise tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods and additional tariffs on the remainder of Chinese goods shipped to the US if a deal is not reached regarding Chinese trade practices.

Maduro’s challenger, Juan Guaido, has been backed by the United States along with other Western powers. Maduro has stated that "We're ready to defend our homeland - under any circumstance." At the same time, the White House maintains that “all options are on the table.”

This tragic event is the latest on a list of incidents caused by failing infrastructure that includes Kundal Shahi bridge collapse in Pakistan which killed 12 people, and the Ponte Morandi bridge collapse in Italy that killed 43 people.
